My love for nutrition and health began at an early age. My parents brought me up eating whole foods and almost all of our meals were made at home. I was always an active person, loving exercise.
I suffered from an eating disorder when I was 19 years old trying to get the 'ideal' body that was being sold to me by the media. i wanted to be thin and i had a distorted image of myself. I was overexercising and under eating.
In my mid twenties I suffered from adult acne. Being very self conscious, I saw a dermatologist who put me on Roacutane but it had some bad side effects. The medication helped to clear up my acne but when I came off it, my acne came back. the dermatologist not once ever mentioned that my diet could have something to do with my skin. If only I knew then what I do now.
I was diagnosed with endometriosis at 26 years old and had an operation to remove some of the growth. After being told that I would need to be on the pill for the rest of my life and that I probably wouldn't be able to have kids, I decided that this wasn't an option for me. I was quite disheartened as I was following the dietary guidelines and exercising. I thought I was doing everything I should but I had many health problems.
I was recommended to a naturopath by a good friend who turned my nutritional beliefs upside down. Everything we had been taught that was supposedly 'good for us' actually went against the ancestral way of eating. I was exposed to the work of Weston A. Price and my view on nutrition changed from this point. I was doing yoga at this time and met a few CHEK practitioners. I started living the CHEK way of life and following the CHEK 6 Foundational Principles: Thinking, Breathing, Eating, Drinking, Movement and Sleeping. My life was changed forever.
I started CrossFit and found my passion. From here, it was not about being skinny but being as strong and as fit as I could be. CrossFit is based on varied functional movement and this resonated well with me. I decided to become a CrossFit Trainer and my dream was to coach CrossFit Kids so I did this course also. I wanted to be able to show kids that being active is fun while learning lots of new things and making new friends.
I became a Holistic Lifestyle Coach with the CHEK Institute and also studied to become a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition (FDN) Practitioner. FDN does not focus on symptoms. Although symptoms are important, my focus is to find the cause which is what makes FDN different to the traditional medical model.
As a FDN Practitioner, I work to improve your health holistically, I aim to remove any obstacles hindering your healing journey, restore vitality and return the body to health. My goal is to identify and remove the hidden stressors which are at the root cause of your symptoms. we work together to bring balance back to your body and reduce your symptoms,
My goal is to help you reach the greatest version of yourself. People often think that to lose weight they only have to exercise and eat healthy. And while this does make an impact, to be truly healthy you need to have the 6 foundation principles in balance. This means that your thinking, breathing, eating, drinking, movement and sleeping all have a profound effect on your success.
Healthy is not only looking good on the outside, it is being healthy from the inside out. Having healthy organs and functions means that this will radiate to the outside.
