The end of 2018.......

The end of 2018.......

Wow….who can believe it is almost the end of 2018. This year has flown for me and there has been many surprises along the way….from deciding to study yoga (which has been a dream of mine for over 15 years) and getting engaged to the most amazing man. Overall I can say it has been a great year!!

At the start of every year, I always set my intentions and goals of what I want to achieve (including the steps to get there) and what I want to learn. I split this into different areas in my life including health, training, studies, family, work and finances. Setting these intentions at the start of the year puts me onto a good start and the amazing thing is, you never know where you are going to end up. The beauty is in the journey, the learning and how you change and grow. Often you start at point A and think you will end up at point B but life takes you on a different direction and the destination turns out to be better than you had originally planned.

One of my favourite sayings by Mahatma Ghandi is….

“Your beliefs become your thoughts,
Your thoughts become your words,
Your words become your actions,
Your actions become your habits,
Your habits become your values,
Your values become your destiny.”

- Mahatma Ghandi

It all starts with your beliefs and your thoughts. If you believe in your goal, in what you want to achieve, chances are it will become your reality. If you believe you won’t or can’t achieve something, then you probably won’t. You need to firstly set the intention that you want to achieve something and work out the steps you need to take to get you there, then you have a greater chance of being successful. I’m a big believer in putting out to the Universe what you want to achieve, and the Universe will show you the way. If you don’t put it out to the Universe, how will it know what you want. Work out what you want to achieve….what you WANT for yourself. If you focus on what you don’t want or are stuck in the same mindset thinking that things will never change, then chances are things will stay the same. There will be no room for growth and development, you will stay stagnant and just attract the same things you always have….and I can already hear you complaining about it LOL

You have a choice. Everyone does. You have the chance to make your life the way you want. Life is way too short to be doing something you don’t want to. Looking at my son who is almost 8 and how quickly those years have gone. In just 10 more years he will be 18. Life flies by so quickly. We only get one life, one chance to experience the world so if you have been wanting to do something but never had the courage or felt like you couldn’t, then make 2019 your year and as the Nike slogan goes….’Just do it!’. Don’t wait for someone to change your life for you. Only you have the power, only you are in control. We cannot wait for someone to do this, nor should we give someone the responsibility to do this for US. They have their own life to focus on and that is a big enough job. We are each responsible for our life. If you want your life to change, then only you can do it.

Being grateful for all that I have is also important. Often we take many things for granted and it is only when we lose it or it doesn’t work as well as it used to, that we realise how important it was. Writing in a journal (almost) everyday helped me to focus on all the goodness in my life, how happy I am, and how I am thankful for even the small things. I don’t need a lot of things to make me happy….just my family, good food, and a happy home.

Looking back on the goals I had set up for 2018, I didn’t achieve everything on my list but I did other things I never thought I would ever get the chance. I am happy with everything I did and I have no regrets. I have spent more time reading, learning, studying over the past 2 years which has reminded me of uni but it was different this time as these were things I wanted to learn. Having a supportive partner and family has helped tremendously and being able to live my dreams has made everything so worthwhile.

Have you reflected on your 2018? Have you achieved everything you wanted to? What do you want for yourself in 2019? Spend some quiet time alone and write down how you want your life to be in 2019. Be honest and realistic and work out the steps you will take to make these a reality.

I can’t wait to see what 2019 has in store for me. Another year, more love, living life to the full and not caring what anyone thinks. Live your dreams and be your authentic self!!
